Zenph® Studios, Inc was founded as a C Corporation in 2002. Using sophisticated computer technology, the services and software products we’re developing will significantly change how music is created, analyzed, and preserved.
Zenph Studios is a section 1202 Qualified Small Business Stock. North Carolina investors are eligible for the 25% state Qualified Business Venture (QBV) tax credit. We have raised a seed round of funding from private investors.
Key for us in this new technology is showing excellent results with piano recordings, which have large archives, a devoted global audience (think of all the piano students), and very critical listeners. Classical and jazz recordings accounted for around US$2.5 B in sales last year, 8% of the worldwide market. Solo piano releases are about 10% of that. The USA represents one-third of the total market, with sales growing rapidly in Asia; in fact, more jazz recordings are sold in Japan than anywhere else. 75% of all music recordings today are released by the Big Four labels: Sony Music, EMI, Universal, and Warner Music.
Our initial commercial offering is a service to record labels and recording studios, where we extract note-perfect performances of their existing recordings. These can be re-performed and re-recorded with modern equipment, creating new audio master recordings - to which they own the new copyright. We are provided with copyrighted source recordings, for which we create high-resolution performance files. We return either the newly-created performance file or new master audio recordings. And, imagine the many forms new master recordings can take, including versions tailored for download and headphone listening, or high-definition surround sound for home theaters or satellite radio.
In our contracts we look like a cross between an artist and a record producer, receiving a combination of fixed fees and a portion of the royalty stream of the release. Our first Big Four label agreement calls for 18 albums of timeless jazz and classical re-performances®.
